About

Welcome to INSIGHTS for Common Good.  This site will focus on current events in a variety of different areas – government and politics, personal finance, economic matters, business and trade, the environment, art, science, medicine, education, etc.

We live in a complex and fast-paced world.  We get news and information in a variety of ways.  It can be overwhelming to keep up with the constant stream of information that we are bombarded with on our phones, PCs, tablets, TVs and by email.  The news we get is too often intertwined with opinions and spin, and lacking in detail or supporting data.  Many news sources today are primarily focused on maximizing ratings or clicks and shaping public opinion.

My goal is different.  This site will cover specific topics and use data to help provide INSIGHTS for readers.  I want to help readers gain a better understanding of the world around them.  I hope to help you learn more about different issues and be a more informed member of society.

I will strive to be objective and rational.  I will use data to tell a story and explain issues, rather than provide a steady stream of unsubstantiated personal opinions.  I will write posts on various topics and also have a section that provides trended data that I think you might find helpful and interesting.

The idea for this site started a few years ago when I wrote an essay that was published online with Smerconish.com.  My essay for Smerconish.com focused on concerns about the increasingly polarized state of our country, and I gave a plea for change.

In the process of writing that essay, I realized personally that I want to work harder to be a more informed and active member of society.  I’ve come to realize that it takes a lot of effort for the average person to keep up with the fast-pace of the world we all live in.  I want to help others become more informed and have a more well-rounded picture of issues and events.

This has all led me to launch this humble blog.  I hope you enjoy what you read here.  If you do, please share it with your friends.  I welcome your feedback and comments.

Live well!
